If a church is a living wall, I’m neither brick nor stone.
If a church is community, I’m better off alone.
If a church is authority, I disclaim such a master.
Church stumbles on the narrow way, alone I’ll travel faster.
While churches meet to worship God and say communal prayers
Alone I’m safe from church-gossips, back-biters, slanderers.
A church holds others to account – though unaccountable.
Its members bear its burdens. Pastors live above its Rule.
Its flock are fleeced to pay its feckless priests to do no work.
May God preserve me from false saints, and from the ersatz kirk.
