Temple of Fame

Persian Temple

Fame’s Temple: building of much mystery!
Wherein the rumours of the world mill round
Augmented by some truth – though usually
Much more deceit – resulting to confound
All understanding and compound in error
The news reports that circle round the earth.
Falsehood and pretense grows to confirmed terror
While Truth is soon dismissed as nothing worth.
Some men seek Fame to increase their own glory
While others shun her to hide their disgrace.
Fame willfully doth trumpet every story
She wills: whether to adorn men or debase
She randomly decides upon her whim
If she’ll adore or if she’ll despise him.
