Hypocrisy – that slithering reptile
That chooses victims with a pleasant face
Distorted by its fake, enduring smile
To extort what it can without a trace
Of remorse: saying black is always white
And bad is good. Playing its subtle game
Of ersatz friend. But when you’re out of sight
Reviling with vicious spite the same.
Pleasant when to your face. Behind your back
Inserting innuendo, slander, guile
Ensuring you can’t trace the next attack
That’s made upon you: in a little while.
So many play this game: ‘hypocrisies’.
No need of foes if you have friends like these.
