Belonging

Belonging

Belonging is a need we find so strong
Most never can resist its siren call.
All men and women feel they must belong
To this group or to that. So do they all.
A few – labeled as ‘crazy’ by all men
Are strong to choose and then walk their own path.
Such are but rare. All others despise them
As misanthropic hermits with a laugh.
It takes rare courage to walk your own road
And greater courage to continue on
The way of solitude. Your only load
Is thinking: feeding your own soul upon
Your single unique thoughts. It’s not allowed
To think yourself – if you are with the crowd.
