Words are Swords

words are swords

Words are swords which skewer and impale
Those within earshot. Throwing-stars with blade
So sharp they pierce all those that they assail
Continuing to wound the soul they flayed.
The ear’s a portal channeling all sounds
Without doorkeeper to shut out the curse
But indiscriminately it confounds
And forwards to the brain both bad or worse.
The heart is torn apart with careless words.
The soul’s assaulted by their spiteful hate.
Each day I am reminded words are swords
Best wielded by the crass and reprobate.
How long must I yet wait till that New Earth
Makes all things new – and only good speaks forth?
