Babes are gifts from God above.
Babies reflect divine love!
Babes are lent us for a season
As they grow, develop reason.
But they were not really mine –
They sojourned with me for a time.
What God gave me He receives
Back once again when home they leave.
They weren’t babies very long –
So soon they grew up tall and strong.
Man and woman they became
Left home: my babies but in name!
When they marry in their turn
With their own babies, they shall learn
That babes are gifts – from God they came.
We loan them: but His they remain.
