Keats’ Lamia

Lamia

Another great poetry must read includes KeatsLamia.

Lamia – a malignant, female monster; half-serpent, half-woman: has the power to transform herself for a time into a flawless maiden: allowing her to entice hapless lovers into her clutches.

Lamia’s latest victim is the handsome, young Lycius: who becomes so smitten that he determines to take Lamia to wife. Lycius remains unwitting of his danger: but he has a powerful protector in the person of his friend, the sage Apollonius.

Lamia’s schemes are transparent enough to Apollonius: but he only uncovers Lycius’ intentions after the wedding ceremonies have commenced!

  • Can Apollonius intervene in time to save Lycius from Lamia’s infernal designs?
