Shared Memories

Strangers with Memories

We’re friends no more. That was another year
Another place and person. The new me
And the new you share nothing, that is clear.
Nor ever will again – from what I see.
Two strangers us – with some shared memories.
Two ships that once passed close on a dark night.
Two fish swam past each other in the seas.
Two birds that glimpsed each other during flight.
I’ll wing my way. And you’ll wing yours afar
Another person than the friend you were.
But I am different too, just like you are.
Time to move on. We shall no more confer.
Once friends – now strangers. Memories we share
Without the pain – and joy – of mutual care.
