Letters Count?

Letters Pile

Like telegrams of old: we count each letter
We tweet, or SMS. Some things don’t change.
Are cryptic, coded, garbles so much better
Because they are so many? That’s as strange
As saying I will not have that old-time mail
Because it’s slow. Was it so bad a thing –
To think before you write? Why should the tail
Now wag the dog? Today most everything
Goes way too fast. Nobody now can spend
The time to talk: instead they’ll SMS
Which even limits each letter they send.
What do they mean? Largely ambiguous.
Do such communications ever say
What is important? Or urgent, merely?
