The Hands of God

Apocalypse

Does God demand perfection? If He does, ’tis plain to see
That we humans are all sundered from Him: yea, eternally.
For so many think the Lord but kind: and they will find it odd
That it is yet a fearful thing –
To fall into the hands of the Living God.

Does God just do “forgiveness”? This His one and only job?
To forgive all brutal humans who but kill, or live to rob?
To pass over those who murder innocents within the womb?
And not punish those who wreak upon their fellows hellish doom?
All such wishful thinking undermines God’s Justice: and His rod.
Thus it still remains a fearful thing
To fall into the hands of the Living God.

If there was neither right nor wrong, it would be plain to see
That all would go to heaven: all deserving equally.
But no humans planned God’s universe: we sprang from hands divine.
And our consciences condemn us when we fail: a certain sign
That our punishment is merited. Our wills are forced to nod
Agreeing ’tis a fearful thing
To fall into the hands of the Living God.

For Jesus is no babe now. He grew up into a man.
And He comes again, but as a King: to end what He began
As a conqueror He will roll up the fabric of the worlds
And all souls will be His captives. His decrees will be unfurled
His pronouncements and His sentences on each and every one
Will depend but only on His will: this God gives to His Son.
Thus on Judgement Day, all men will fear
To fall into the hands of this Living God.
