Temple to God

Temple to God

I’m building a temple to God.
But I use not mere temporal things: no stones, no wood, nor bricks and such.
For in this temple only shall be used the best materiél:
Good human hearts, and limbs of flesh, and minds inside their living skulls.
Let hearts and hands and feet and tongues give praise to Your Creator High!

What – temples wrought in flesh and blood? Whose senseless words commanded this?
Our God of heaven. He it was that ordered thus His temple built.
But why? Ask Him! For He alone ordained He’d dwell in nothing else
Except in hearts made holy: purified from all the dross of sin.
I shall be a temple to God.
